how does that energy generated get turned into energies for houses? >> this is something that is very interesting. before i wrote this book, i did research on nimby-ism, the not in my backyard idea. whether there was anything thinking about how you could get around that. i ended up running into interesting research. in europe, they have had a lot of solar and wind development. along the way, they have figured out ways to get around this problem. a lot of it ends up coming down to having communities participating in these projects rather than just having the project happen to them. i think in denmark, if you build a wind farm, you have to offer the community or person whose property you are building on, a 20% stake in the wind farm. suddenly, nimby-ism disappears. i think that's a great idea. i have no idea what it would take to actually get something like that implemented in the u.s., because it is different from how we traditionally thought of infrastructure development. the idea of this interactive participatory infrastructure development is very di

a lot of renewable energy. we were at the chicago flower and garden show in 2011, 2012. this is our display. one of the things we wanted to do and i tried to start with that in the 90's these gardens need to be esthetically. it's important to enhance rather than having ugly gardens that people really don't want to be a part of. and these young people if they were not participating they were probably doing something that isn't so good they get paid in the summertime to be in these programs and many of them stay with us from 8-years-old. this is the future. we hope to be breaking the ground in this project. this has been designed right next to the parent firm and will be the first of the kind in the world with a large retail stores and a greenhouse is stacked on top of each other that would house over 400 people in the second floor and have a teaching kitchen to become involved in culinary arts and could also hopefully be the start of a project that we are working ith all of the universities here in the area in madison and some of the other universities to have a nutrition

everybody says the department of energy gave solyndra a loan, and, you know, why did solyndra fail? well, one of the things that is the untold story with solyndra is the reason it failed, one of the main reasons it failed is because of chinese dumping of solar panels. when solyndra started, chinese solar panels were at a higher price and they explicitly dumped the solar panels into the united states, and undercut solyndra solar panels. a practice like that, which is market distorting, i think, in this case, the united states should act firmly, impose countervailing duties saying this is not acceptable. i think we have to look at it on a case-by-case basis. steel types is another example. i write about it in the book. there's a bilath rail negotiation between the chinese and the united states complaining about the steel type duties imposed, and a senior official asked the chinese counterparts how many chinese steel companies do you allow to answer in china? the answer was zero. we have five chinese companies to operate in the united states so we need to use, i think, our trade policy

i found the book quite engaging and it certainly captures the much celebrated bradlee and all his energy, flayer, courage, profanity, charisma and impact. jeff had remarkable access to bradley's personal papers, bradlee himself and to many who have known bradley. jeff came to this project is a friend of the bradley family and also as a friend and collaborator of woodward's was just journalistic mentor. in fact, just takes up the first 30 pages or so of the book with a lengthy description of how the project of falls. that is how it was initially envisioned as a book to be read with radley and came inside a book by joseph about bradley. and jeff notes for leon began to fence the trickiness of writing, as he puts it, about your mentors mentor. there's quite a bit of jeff himself in this book, which is at least a title, the personal portrait of ben bradlee. the time the book becomes as much about jeff's own journey of discovery and just encounters with woodward acid is an account of bradley's wife. jeff plans to speak for about 20 minutes or so and take questions. if you'd like to ask a ques
